Case Study: Sovereign Extinguishing Helps Silicon Roundabout Company with Both Fire Suppression and Hydrogen Concentration Sensing
Sovereign Extinguishing has very recently finished an installation at a very prestigious Silicon Roundabout company to protect their building and also their business continuity. We achieved this by protecting their new UPS Room with a Kidde Argonite system – protecting their power supplies from fire and mitigating the inevitable consequences that follow.
The Old Street Roundabout as it should be called, is in the heart of central London, close to both the East End and the city and has become a hub for high-tech companies – drawing comparisons with Silicon Valley in California and earning it the nickname Silicon Roundabout.
The customer recognised that they had a significant fire risk in the new UPS room that it was building, and so instructed the room builder to install fire suppression in there. Our room build partner selected Sovereign Extinguishing to design, supply, install and commission an Argonite gas fire suppression system to protect the room.
In addition, the adjacent battery room was identified as a further risk in case of the build-up of high concentrations of hydrogen being produced due to the batteries’ charging procedure. To monitor this, a VESDA system was installed to sense for very tiny concentrations of smoke, and also a hydrogen monitoring system to constantly test the room air for abnormal levels of hydrogen.
Sovereign turned to our partners at Kidde, Kentec and Ventec among others to supply equipment to our design, and the two systems was delivered, installed and commissioned to the customer’s programme, whilst always being aware of their COVID-19 protocols, and the various challenges of working in central London.
The two systems are now commissioned and in active service, protecting the customer’s investment 24-7.
