UK Government Site Data Centres and Plant Room Equipped with Kidde Argonite (IG55)

Case Study: UK Government Site Data Centres and Plant Room Equipped with Kidde Argonite (IG55)

When a UK Government Site recognised a need on one of their sites for improved Data Centre facilities, they commissioned a reputed and experienced Data Centre builder to build their TWO new Data Centres together with the associated Plant Room to run them.

The two Data Centre rooms, one of just over 1000 m3, and a smaller one of around 360 m3, are both equipped with both Floor Voids and Aisle Separation, which Sovereign Extinguishing of course equipped with their own Smoke Detection and Gas Discharge equipment.

Argonite was chosen for the extinguishant gas, and quite unusually, the client specified enough Gas Cylinders to serve as a Duty set and Standby set – which meant that the system could be back up and running instantly should it discharge.

In total, 42 x 140 Litre 300 Bar Argonite cylinders were installed, which were supplied by Kidde Fire Protection, one our equipment partners, for the two new Data Centres – and then an additional 3 x 140 Litre 300 Bar Cylinders for the Plant Room. A Kentec Syncro XT addressable detection system was installed which provided all the added advantages of using an addressable system, together with smoke detection and annunciation to create a fully integrated system.

All in all, a great project for both Sovereign Extinguishing and for the final client – 2 x new Data Centres and Plant Room secured against the danger of Fire.
